How to Seal a Table of Granite Stone?

Any stone by its nature has some degree of porosity, and can allow liquids to seep into its surface, turning a previously clean area into an area with potential for stains. If you need to seal a granite table in your home, this article will guide you in a simple way to do so in the blink of an eye.

  • Use the test of the wet paper towel to determine if your table really needs to be sealed. Some kinds of granite do not need any type of sealer, and trying to apply one could be counterproductive.
  • Soak a paper towel or a white cotton towel and place it on the table top and wait for five minutes.
  • Has the surface of the table become dark below the area where the towel water is seeping into the granite? If so, the table will need to be sealed.
  • Spray the entire surface evenly with a bottle of kitchen cleaner. Carve the table with a paper towel, remove the product residue and wait for a few minutes. The surface must be completely dry.
  • Apply the granite sealer evenly over the entire surface of your granite table. Ideally, you should spray the granite sealer by placing it in a spray bottle for application, but a new brush or white cloth may work as well.
  • Let the stone absorb the sealer for a period of between 20 and 25 minutes.
  • When the granite sealer has dried almost completely, apply another small dose on the cover and carve the surface firmly with a clean white cloth.
  • Wait for at least two hours before repeating the process for a second application. The waiting time may vary depending on the brand of granite sealer you buy.

When a table needs to be sealed, the granite will require at least two layers of sealant, but read the instructions in case more applications are needed.

Granite is a porous surface by nature, so clean it with some product that has a low pH and allows it to dry completely before applying the granite sealer. Depending on how thick your sealant is, and also its quality, you may need to dry it all night. Be sure to cover the entire surface when you are applying granite sealer. Granite table tops and countertops are very popular for the kitchen and outdoor area. At both areas, liquids are often spoiled. To be sure of the long-term durability of table or countertop, sealing granite is very much advisable.
